Lesson 7 — Temecula 500 Challenge

The Temecula 500 pilot aims to document 500 verified unique commercial waste locations. Its purpose is useful data coverage and education—not a contest to discover the dirtiest property.
Good contributions
Useful photos, accurate answers, safe conduct and consistent volunteer participation make a strong observation.
Submitted versus verified
Pending submissions, quality rejections and duplicates are tracked separately from verified unique site progress.
Founder and leadership rules
City Founder recognition follows the first verified eligible new-site observation in an unclaimed city, with opt-in recognition. Active City Captain and Zone Captain roles are separately selected; titles are not automatic.
Reward improvements
Future badges, missions, leaderboards and sponsored rewards must reward quality, progress and verified improvements, never the severity of a location. Details become active only when approved.
Practice: what would you do?
A participant submits 12 usable images of the same enclosure. They might have useful follow-up activity but cannot claim 12 unique verified sites or 12 founder awards.
Check your understanding
Open each question to check the recommended answer. These informal self-checks do not award a grade, qualification, points or certificate.
1. Does a new upload immediately advance the official 500 counter?
Learning feedback: No. Staff must verify unique location eligibility.
2. Should a mapper get more points for severe-looking waste?
Learning feedback: No. Quality and improvement should drive recognition.
3. Is the City Captain role guaranteed at 50 submissions?
Learning feedback: No. Leadership is a separate review and appointment.
Continue learning
Educational observations are not legal findings. Do not trespass, touch waste or publish private property information.
