ADOPT-A-DUMPSTER™ VOLUNTEER ACADEMY · TOPIC 6 OF 8 · APPROX. 8 MINUTES
Lesson 6 — Privacy, Review and Quality

Photographs, precise submitted locations and owner information are private by default. The public map generally displays generalized activity or aggregated coverage; individual exact pins require appropriate permission.
Submission stages
Submitted is not Verified. A moderator checks quality, duplication and relevance before confirming a unique mapped site.
Permanent site identity
One physical dumpster area corresponds to one persistent program Site ID. Repeated observations may attach as follow-ups or verified improvements rather than new locations.
Avoid duplicate credit
A nearby candidate within roughly 30 metres can trigger review but does not automatically mean two separate enclosures are the same. A person confirms the decision.
Safe public information
Do not post identifiable site photos, precise unapproved coordinates, names, private scores or enforcement allegations to the community map.
Practice: what would you do?
Two students report the same enclosure from opposite sides. Staff should retain both useful observations where appropriate, connect them to one site and count one verified unique location.
Check your understanding
Open each question to check the recommended answer. These informal self-checks do not award a grade, qualification, points or certificate.
1. Should two photos from one enclosure count as two unique sites?
Learning feedback: No. A verified enclosure has one permanent Site ID; repeat observations are tracked separately.
2. Are photo and exact location public by default?
Learning feedback: No. General-area visibility and exact site recognition require separate permission safeguards.
3. Who confirms duplicate resolution during the pilot?
Learning feedback: A human reviewer, not automatic GPS proximity alone.
Continue learning
Educational observations are not legal findings. Do not trespass, touch waste or publish private property information.
