Map your community. Build your skills. Earn recognition. Open doors.
Adopt-A-Dumpster™ invites students and community groups to explore meaningful environmental service through safe, structured observations of commercial waste areas and stormwater pathways. Help Map America’s Trash System™ begins with the Temecula 500 challenge and a phone-friendly mapping form.

What students can gain
- Introduction to stormwater systems, waste-containment practices and practical clean-water education
- Experience documenting observations with location services, photos and simple structured questions
- Practice with field safety, data privacy, ethical reporting and human verification
- Team-based communication, leadership and community engagement opportunities as approved
- Evidence of actual verified participation, learning activities and properly logged service hours, if the organization has approved tracking and verification
How the student pathway works
Learn → Volunteer → Submit observations → Human review → Build an accurate activity record → Consider leadership or later opportunities. Map count is not a substitute for service hours; an unreviewed photo is not a verified site.
Resumes and campus programs
A staff-confirmed participation summary may eventually document genuine training and contributions for resumes or scholarship applications. Academic course credit, internships, formal credentials, and school partnerships are not automatically available and require approval from the institution and program.
Future internship and paid field-work opportunities
As the program matures and positions are funded, experienced participants may choose to apply through a separate, lawful selection process. No gift cards or paid rewards are promised. Any educational participation recognition is subject to program rules and verification, not an accredited credential. A milestone such as 50 verified observations does not guarantee an interview, job, internship, compensation or City Captain appointment. Schools alone decide academic credit; no credit is guaranteed. Future paid roles are subject to approved openings, eligibility and worker-classification review.

Safety first
Never trespass, move or open dumpsters, handle waste, confront employees, approach moving trucks or work in unsafe conditions. Field mapping signups are for adults age 18 or older submitting their own interest. Minors may participate only in school- or guardian-supervised education, subject to staff confirmation of eligibility and permission; no unsupervised youth field mapping. Do not submit the adult field form for a minor. A school or campus coordinator, parent or guardian should ask staff about supervised youth education first.
